Brief Description

Shared Living is an arrangement of supports that provides a family atmosphere, with a shared home, family, and community. These supports can happen in the individuals’ home or in the Provider’s home. The most common arrangement involves parents or a family member such as a sibling becoming the Provider with KFI as the Administrative agency. The individual receiving Shared Living services will receive assistance with household tasks, medication management, independent living skills, and relationship and friendship development. The actual services are customized by the Provider to meet the individual’s needs and desires.

Service Location

People receiving shared living services can live in a family home anywhere within KFI’s service area (Penobscot County, Southern Aroostook County and Cumberland County)

Who Qualifies

People with intellectual and developmental disabilities who wish to live within a family setting and who have a funding source that pays for the Provider and the Administrative Agency.

Who Refers

Community Case Managers through a vendor call system.

How Services are Funded

People with intellectual and developmental disabilities are funded through either Section 21 or Section 29 of the Medicaid Waiver Program.

Service Outcome

People with disabilities live within a family which provides supports and skill development to prepare the person to live more independently.
